Tonya is married to Steve Vistaunet and they are the parents of three wonderful daughters. Tonya grew up all over the world, including years in Taiwan, New York, California, Texas, Arizona, and Utah. Her time spent in different cities has given her an appreciation and love for all kinds of art and creative endeavors.
Tonya loves to spend her time as a painter, seamstress, colorist, and overall doer of all things creative. She loves to read, hates to cook, and really enjoys time with her three grandsons!
Tell us a little bit about A Happy Vista.
When Steve and I started really working together we were trying to decide our purpose. We decided it was to spread happiness. We just wanted to make and do stuff that makes people smile. Whether it sells or not is beside the point (although that’s obviously a good thing) – we just want to make people happy.
You and your husband work together to create beautiful coloring books, posters, and other beautiful graphic designs – what do you love most about working with your spouse?
It’s fun to work with your best friend! We both know each other so well that often we know just what the other one is thinking – so it’s easy to work with someone when you can guess what they are going to do. We’ve always worked well together, so it really doesn’t seem that strange. It’s actually very natural and quite fun.
You are a mother of all daughters – have any of them followed in your creative footsteps?
All three of my daughters have grown up to be very creative – each in their own way. All choose to live a creative life, and it definitely shows in the way they live.
On your website you mention your love of reading – what are some of your favorite books?
I love historical fiction and spy novels. I’m especially intrigued by any book written — fiction or non-fiction — about the Tudor dynasty. I love history books too. I also enjoy reading about the creative process and what makes other people “tick”. I just recently finished Big Magic and loved it!
If you could meet a creative woman from any time period, who would you want to meet and why?
I’d go all the way back to the beginning and meet Eve! She had to be very creative. There was no set precedent on how to do anything – so she had to figure everything out and create her own way of life. Quite an impressive woman if you ask me.
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that inspires you?
Live Out Loud! Love Your Life! Be Excellent To Each Other.
What advice would you give to aspiring creatives?
Don’t get discouraged. You will make mistakes and it will probably take longer than you want it to. That’s just part of the deal. Learn from your mistakes. Be patient. Do not stop. Keep moving forward. Every little step forward is a victory. Just don’t ever give up. The world needs what you have to offer.
