Summer Smoothies

IMG_8327

One of my favorite things about the warmer weather is finding an excuse to drink more homemade [healthy] smoothies.  Below are two of my favorite smoothie recipes:

Berry Vanilla Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of sliced, frozen strawberries (I use fresh strawberries, slice them, and then put them in a zipper gallon bag and then pop them in the freezer).
  • 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries
  • 1/3 cup of low fat vanilla yogurt
  • 1 cup vanilla unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • Handful of spinach (optional)

Put the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.  Pour into a glass and garnish with two or three frozen blueberries or a fresh, sliced strawberry. Makes 1 serving.  Double or triple the recipe to share with friends at the pool.

TRY THIS: Instead of blueberries, feel free to try other berries.  Blackberries, raspberries, or possibly add frozen mangos instead of berries. The variations are endless.

Banana Chocolate Protein Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen banana (I peel and slice a banana in chunks and then freeze it in a zipper bag)
  • Two tablespoons of chocolate protein powder
  • 1 1/2 cups of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 tsp chia seeds

Blend all the ingredients in a blender and then pour into a glass.  Serves 1.  Double or triple the recipe to share with your workout buddies.

TRY THIS: For even more chocolate flavor, try using chocolate almond milk instead of vanilla.
