Mindy Kaling

I just finished reading both of Mindy Kaling’s books, “Is Everybody Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)” and “Why Not Me.” I. Loved. Both. If you’re not aware, Mindy Kaling is a script writer that wrote for most of the run of the incredibly successful TV show, “The Office,” as well as acting on screen as character, Kelly Kapoor. She then created and currently stars in “The Mindy Project.”

I recently became infatuated with Kaling when I picked up her first book this Summer. I always love a chance to get a behind the scenes glimpse into successful people’s upbringings and the paths that have led them to where they are now. Her first book highlights several charming childhood memories as well as her experiences in New York before landing her job as a writer in LA at “The Office.” I felt a certain kinship to Kaling as I read about her struggles in her early twenties and working as a nanny (which I understand all too well(:). This is a book that will have you smiling all the way through with occasional bursts of laughter that may get you weird looks in public.

Her follow up book, “Why Not Me,” that was released in September of this year, was a just as charming and delightful read. This second book goes into detail on the more recent experiences in her career. She includes essays on the perks and negatives of fame, creating her own TV show, facing the ups and downs of that journey and plenty of juicy dating stories. I enjoyed this second book just as much as her first and highly recommend both to anyone needing an inspirational, fun and quirky pick me up.
